Beaches of the North
These seawaters, cold and reinvigorating, blend with the fine sands and aroma of pines to create the incomparable Atlantic coast of the north of Portugal. If you like sun drenched days wandering the green of nature, broken by the celebration of a popular festival or discovering picturesque coastal fishing towns, the Minho is definitely the place to be.
The climate is temperate and reinvigorating, avoiding the intense heat of the south. And the iodine laden sea airs ensure you return home with more than a healthy glow.
Moledo is the most northerly of Portuguese beaches. There is a relaxed and family friendly atmosphere and a vast beach surrounded by the centuries old forest of Camarido, ideal for a late afternoon stroll.
Between the sands of Moledo and Porto, the northern capital, you can literally beach hop.
From Vila Praia de Âncora, Afife to Montedor, these are just a beginning to the beaches you come across all the way down to Viana do Castelo. Here, take a stop and tour one of the prettiest of Portuguese cities.
And the fine sands keep on coming. Off some beaches seaweed gathering and fishing is to be seen. And if you need constant recreation and entertainment, get to Póvoa de Varzim. The monumental casino, the beachside promenade and the many surfers and bodyboarders make this one of the most popular beaches in northern Portugal.
