Property is a manorial house from the XVIII century situated in Travassos, a traditional gold filigree workshop-village. For centuries families have been making jewellery and even today several workshops remain active. The manor house stands next to one of those workshops, which was converted into a small but fine museum. Here you will find tools and beautiful examples of the art of goldsmithery, meticulously collected by the owner. The house and the rural buildings have been adapted to receive guests. The nearest town is Póvoa de Lanhoso (8 Km, all facilities), with a lively centre and a large weekly market. Worth visiting are the 12th century castle, and a recently restored castro (prehistoric settlement). Halfway Póvoa there is an excellent restaurant. It is 15 Km to the Peneda-Gerês National Park. It is 21 km from Guimarães, 22 Km from Braga and 75 Km from Porto.
Classified for its historical, cultural, and architectonic relevance, the main house has been beautifully redecorated, preserving many ancient details, especially in the former kitchen and the adjoining dining room. There are two living rooms, one without TV, where you can enjoy a quiet conversation or read a book, and three double rooms with private bathroom. On the ground floor are the main kitchen and a games room with billiard.
Behind the main house is a lovely terraced garden, with spacious lawns and shady trees, and a large patio next to the swimming pool. There is also a separate pool for children. The swimming pool is 15 x 5 metres with a depth varying from 0.90 to 2.30 metres. During summer months the water is maintained at an average temperature of 30º C. The children's pool is 4 x 2.50 metres with a depth of 0.30 metres.
The main house can be rented as a whole (sleeps 6 adults + 3 children), and you will share the gardens, the pool etc. with the owner's family (not with other guests).

Travassos
The castle built on the top of the hill known as Monte do Pilar is the most important monument in the region and, according to tradition, D. Teresa, the mother of the first king of Portugal was held prisoner there in the twelfth century after the Battle of São Mamede, in which mother and son fought on opposite sides.
In the seventeenth century, the monastery of Nossa Senhora do Pilar was built next to the castle. In the nearby village of Fonte Arcada is a twelfth-century Romanesque church that is well worth a visit.
Situated in the heart of the vinho verde demarcated wine region, Póvoa de Lanhoso is well known for its granite quarrying and cutting industries and its remarkable goldsmith's work (filigree).
